The Feasibility of Gumamela(Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn) Leaves Extract as a Cure for Abrasions

Chapter I: Introduction
  • Background of the Study

As much as we'd like for it to be otherwise, injuries still happen. One example of injuries is abrasions, it happen when skin comes contact with a rough material. Skinned knees or palms are the most common types of abrasions. Bleeding is usually minimal. So I chose this study to help people find cheaper cure for abrasions.

We all know that gumamela (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn) is used for ornamental cultivation througout the country. Gumamela contains anodyne that can relieves pain. So it is suitable to be a cure for abrasions because it ha the ability to relive pain.

  • Statement of the Problem

This study tries to find out if gumamela leaves extract can cure external wounds specifically, abrasions.

Specifically, it will try to answer the following question:

1.) Can gumamela leaves extract cure abrasions?

  • Hypothesis

1.) Gumamela leaves extract can cure abrasions.

2.) Gumamela leaves extract cannot cure abrasions.

  • Significance of the Study

This study determines if gumamela leaves extract cure abrasions. Since most of the people dont have antiseptic in their homes they could find a substitute for it like gumamela leaves extract. It is also cheaper and easy to find. Gumamela leaves extract is also environment- friendly because there's no harmful chemicals added to the extract that can harm the environment.

  • Scope and Limitation

This study is limited only in determining if gumamela leaves extract can cure abrasions. Moreover, this study pertains only to gumamela leaves, which I chose to investigate.

  • Definition of Terms
-ABRASION is a wound consisting of superficial damage to the skin, generally not deeper than the epidermis. It is more superficial than an excoriation, although it can give mild bleeding. Mild abrasions, also known as grazes or scrapes, do not scar or bleed, but deep abrasions may lead to the development of scarring tissue.

-GUMAMELA (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn) is a shrub that grows from one meter up to four meters high. Gumamela is also known as: Hibicus, China rose and Shoeflower. In the Philippines, gumamela is cultivated as an environmental plant. The gumamela flower comes in many colors: red, yellow, orange, white, purple, pink and other color combinations.

Gumamela leaves, flowers, roots are used as herbal medicines. It has the following medicinal characteristics: expectorant, diurect, emollient, anti- infectious, anti- infamatory, antipyretic, anodyne and refrigerant.
